What a winding history. And not done yet.
Rice Weiner & Co. was launched in 1938 as the rebrand of New England Glass Works, founded in 1911, and counted McClelland Barclay Jewelry among their clients.
That company gets its name from one of New York City's top illustrators and painters from the 1920s through to the 1940s. Barclay was also a jewelry designer. Excellent history below. *
After Rice Weiner & Co. broke up in 1947 two members of the Rice family and a designer went on to found Barclay Jewelry Co.**
Marked sterling silver. Strong screw backings. Minor signs of wear. A very light clean (gentle soap, even softer brush, and buff) revealed wee rhinestones at the heart of each flower. Always leave deep cleans to the pros. Stones untested. Confident making the call.
Resting comfortably. Eager to make some new memories.
