AMCO: Smokey

This beauty was crafted by the design team at A. MICALLEF & CO., INC (AMCO Jewelry). Incorporated in March 17th, 1948, the Providence Rhode Island based company may have operated as far back as 1919, records show. *

Filigree set with cognac-coloured stones or Smokey Quartz. Remarkable clarity,  uniform depth and tone. Gold-filled (14k). Bears the AMCO mark.

Beautiful vintage condition. Strong clasp and safety chain. About 7-inches in length. Suspect the safety chain could be an extender. But rather delicate. 

Quartz makes up roughly 20 per cent of the earth’s crust. Smokey Quartz owes its deeper hue to “traces of aluminum and natural irradiation," producing crystals ranging from light brown to black.

A bonus: the Druids considered Smokey Quartz sacred and believed it could serve as a conduit for souls to the afterlife. **
